A QUICK REVIEW OF THE 2014-15 SEASON - The CV Varsity team won their final six games and set the tone for a bright future for upcoming seasons!  

The 2014-15 Campo Verde Varsity squad set the record for most wins in season finishing 15-9 and 12-6 in State Power Point games including going 9-3 since the Christmas break. Here are some of the records and highlights from 2014-15:

Varsity Head Coach Michael Wirth
 - "If you want to be the best on the court, you have to strive to be the best in all areas of your life." This quote from Coach Wirth has been his blueprint for success on and off the court when it comes to building quality basketball programs. He has led three separate programs to school records in wins and/or win % and Team G.P.A's.

Coach Wirth was named Varsity Head Coach at Campo Verde in 2013. Prior, he was the Varsity Head Coach at Skyline High School in Mesa, Arizona holding the most all-time wins in school history along with 14 other school records, including most wins and highest winning percentage. In six of the past seven seasons the program received the Academic Achievement Award for a team average G.P.A over 3.0.

Before arriving at Skyline High School, Coach Wirth led Maricopa High School to school records for wins in a season and highest win % while reaching the state tournament. His 2002-03 squad finished 21-3. Coach Wirth was also named Maricopa Unified School District Teacher of the Year in 2003. In his first head coaching opportunity in Iowa, Coach Wirth led Armstrong-Ringsted High School to more wins in his first year than the previous three years along with being recognized with a team G.P.A of 3.0 or higher.

Coach Wirth is a co-founder of the Arizona Basketball Coaches Association. It is the only professional organization for basketball coaches in the state with a mission of promoting what is best about basketball. Each year the ABCA brings in the best college coaches in the country for the fall coaches clinic and recognizes the best high school players with the ABCA All-Star games in the spring.

In 2008, Coach Wirth started the 3D Hoops Institute, a youth club program that develops basketball skills and life skills. He also developed the S.W.E.A.T shooting method . He is an active member in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

A native of Iowa, Coach Wirth played on the record-setting University of Minnesota-Morris team that set the school record for wins and was elected to the UMM Hall of Fame. As a player, Coach Wirth was an All-State H.S. selection and played on an Iowa Select team that traveled to Europe.

Coach Wirth has a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, Principal Certificate and currently teaches in the Social Studies Department. He has two young boys, Creighton and Lincoln. His wife Andrea played college basketball at Waldorf College and Simpson College in Iowa.




Varsity Assistant Coach Carlos Artis - Carlos Artis is one of the top basketball players to ever play in the state of Arizona! Coach Artis was recently named to the top 15 athletes ever in the state of Arizona! Carlos Artis was the state's all time leading scorer in 1991, he was the Player of the Year in 1990 and 1991, Male Athlete of the Year, Nike All-American and McDonald's All-American.

Carlos played basketball and football at Arizona State University from 1991-95. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1995-96. Coach Artis joined the staff in 2013. Carlos also runs Team Artis, one of the most respected club basketball programs in the state.

Carlos's son Legend graduated in 2014 with his name throughout the career record book at Campo Verde High School. Carlos's also has a son Kingdom, who will be a freshmen at Campo Verde High School in 2015. Coach Artis has been blessed also with a daughter, Legacy, and the love of his life, wife Monique. "All things are possible, if you believe" is the motto that Coach Artis lives by and has been a great example throughout his life!"

Head Junior Varsity Coach John Rhoads
Coach Rhoads has been coaching basketball since 1997. Coaching on every level from 5 years old to high school. He has made stops at Desert Ridge (assistant Freshman/JV), Mesquite Jr 8th(volunteer Assistant), Highland Jr 7th (volunteer Assistant). Most recently he was an Assistant Varsity coach at Gilbert Classical Academy the last 4 years. Coach Rhoads helped to guide GCA last year to their 1st State Tournament appearance in school history. Coach Rhoads currently teaches physical education in the Gilbert School District at Gilbert Classical Academy.

Born and raised in Iowa, he played college basketball in junior college and a NAIA school. Had the privilege to play for some great coaches who impacted his life and basketball career and became a coach to pass that on down to younger players. Hard work, determination and commitment will bring results, in life and on the court.

Coach Rhoads currently lives in Mesa and spends his free time playing golf, basketball, hiking, camping, fishing or traveling. Coach Rhoads has two teenage children, a son graduating this year, and a daughter in 8th grade.
Head Freshmen Coach Cale Markley
Coach Markley was named to Coach Wirth's staff in 2013 after serving as the freshmen coach at Campo Verde for the past 3 seasons. Coach Markley's teams have had a winning record each of the past three seasons sporting a combined .700 win percentage.

This will be Coach Markley's 10th season coaching. Prior to Campo Verde, Coach Markley served as the head freshmen coach at Mesquite HS for seven years and one year as the head 8th grade coach at Mesquite JH. He currently teaches Government.

Coach Markley was born in Iowa and moved to Arizona at age 8. Growing up he dreamed of one day playing basketball at the University of Iowa. Though he did not achieve this goal, he has made it his mission to impact the life of young people to help them to be successful in the game of basketball and the game of life.

Coach Markley currently lives in Gilbert, AZ with his beautiful bride Chrissy, son Caden and new additions Rylee and Reagan. In addition to spending time with his family, Coach likes to work on his shooting and mix in a round or two of golf.

Assistant Coach LeSean Marks - Coach Marks graduated from Hamilton High School in 2010, where he was a two-year letterman point guard and three-year letterman hurdler. His success in high school on the basketball court and the track garnered him many opportunities to be a collegiate athlete. He played one season of basketball at Arizona Christian University before ultimately choosing to run track.

He has coached 4 years for Tom Kuyper Basketball and has coached all ages, specifically 8th grade and 5th grade. The passion for the game Coach Marks had as a player now shows in his coaching. He is excited to be on staff at Campo because of the desire to not only mold great basketball players, but to also mold great young men of character and respect.

Off the court Le'Sean enjoys going to the movies with his wife and playing the piano. He and his wife currently live their lives with no children or pets, but do plan have to have a couple in the future
